Critical Thinking is . . . .
. . .the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying,
analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation,
experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.
Critical Thinking Student Learning Outcomes
St. Philip's College students will demonstrate the ability to:
- pose vital questions and identify problems, formulating them clearly and precisely
- gather relevant information and interpret it effectively
- impartially consider alternative systemsof thought, recognizing and assessing assumptions,
implications, and practical consequences
- develop well-reasoned conclusions and solutions, checking them against relevant
criteria and standards
- communicate effectively with others in determining solutions to complex problems

SPC uses direct assessments to measure students' critical thinking skills as well as process
assessment to continuously improve implementation.
