STUDENTS WITH 4.0’s HONORED WITH NEW ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
First Presidential Scholarship under College’s new leadership empowers students to serve others
SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 17, 2008) --- Three students with 4.0 grade point averages, individual histories of community service and commitments to involve themselves in leadership and community engagement activities were awarded the St. Philip’s College Presidential Scholarship.
Scholarship recipients Thomas Espinosa, Jana Penniston and Ava Delgado each received a $1500 scholarship, which includes requirements to participate in structured community engagement activities and to meet with the President of the College for mentoring opportunities. The College paid tribute to the recipients and Scholarship applicants during the SPC Presidential Scholarship dinner Oct. 23 at the SPC Upper Deck restaurant.
“You embodied---at the highest level---the essence of what it means to earn and achieve a Presidential Scholarship,” St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston outlined for her audience and the first three recipients of her College’s scholarship program. “This is one of our College’s highest honors, one in which I give personal attention,” said Dr. Loston. “You agree to serve our community as described in your application packet and to share your experiences with me personally,” Dr. Loston said. “I look forward to our meeting, to answer your questions, and to provide you with mentoring support. There is no doubt that I will learn much from you as well,” said Dr. Loston. (Image by Melissa Vasquez)
