ELEVEN AT ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE RECEIVE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR STAFF AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

Awards for outstanding service or teaching excellence presented during international program in Austin

SAN ANTONIO (May 28, 2009) --- Eleven St. Philip’s College employees are recipients of the 2009 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Awards in recognition of their outstanding service or teaching excellence.

The 2009 recipients from St. Philip’s College were recognized with individual medallions during the institute’s international conference over the Memorial Day weekend in Austin. The recipients are Lawrence Gable; Allison Joubert; Donna Laird; Luis Lopez; Warren Parker; Laurie Rodriguez; El Sonny Slitine; Patrice Smith; Angela Rabb; Teresa Kautz; and Dr. Benjamin Kraft.

The awards are made annually to faculty, staff and administrators from such member institutions as St. Philip’s College. The 2008 recipients from St. Philip’s College were Maria Andrews; Robert De Luna; Charles Gunter; Allen L. Hamilton; Betty J. Johnson; John Martin; Pamela Ray; Linda Solis and Yolanda Vargas.

All award recipients have demonstrated on-going excellence in service to the students and community in achieving the goals of Alamo Colleges --- St. Philip’s College, explained college Faculty Senate Development Committee members Jose Rivera and David Weaver.

More than 700 community colleges around the world are members of the institute, including almost every large community college district, the majority of urban and technical colleges in the United States and Canada, and more than 200 small, rural colleges around the world. The institute is the outreach vehicle and service arm to the Community College Leadership Program at The University of Texas at Austin.

The awards process starts with the collection of award nominations each September by the college’s Development Committee members, and ends with the announcement of recipients the following May.
