ALAMO COLLEGES --- ST. PHILIP’S COLLEGE RECEIVES $50,000 DONATION FROM HEB
Generous donation for scholarships from grocery company coincides with $49 million building dedication
SAN ANTONIO (May 4, 2009) --- The presentation of a $50,000 donation by the HEB grocery company to fund scholarships at St. Philip’s College was a special highlight of the recent dedication of a three-building $49 million complex at the St. Philip’s College Martin Luther King Campus.
The $50,000 grant from HEB that will fund student scholarships at St. Philip's College reflects the partnership that has existed between the college and the grocery company over the years, both St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston and HEB Public Affairs Director Dya Campos explained in remarks during the ceremony.
“In honor of your traditions, commitment and new facilities, HEB and all of our 70,000 partners across the state would like to present the college with a grant of $50,000 for student scholarships,” Dya Campos said. “St. Philip’s College has such a longstanding reputation of excellence in education,” said Campos. “Many of our HEB employees and partners have benefitted from the excellent education the college provides,” Campos noted.
“What would any program be without the support of the business community?” Dr. Loston told the dedication ceremony audience. “Our college is honored to accept this award on behalf of our students,” said Dr. Loston. “HEB made this commitment to boost the retention and graduation rates of students who pursue their academic dreams at St. Philip’s College,” Dr. Loston said. “Scholarship recipients will be required to engage in community service and to participate in programs on the college’s campuses that are related to their studies,” Dr. Loston said.
