Vision
St. Philip's College Vocational Nursing Program seeks to become the premier
nursing program in Texas producing highly
skilled, competent and proficient nurses able to assume responsibility and
accountability in providing preventative,
restorative, and rehabilitative care to clients throughout the lifespan.
Mission
The mission of the St.
Philip's College Vocational Nursing Program is to prepare entry level vocational
nurses competent to provide safe effective nursing care in a variety of
client-centered settings in a holistic manner in three major roles: member
of a profession, provider of care and coordinator of care. The St. Philip's College
Vocational Nursing Program is a
Texas

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved program.
Goals
The goals of the St. Philip's
College Vocational Nursing Program in support of the College's mission are
threefold: firstly, to provide a comprehensive curriculum that incorporates
educational requirements and competencies as prescribed by the
Texas Board of Nursing (BON),
provide instruction that includes current standards of nursing practice, procedures, and advances in technology
(computers, simulation, etc.); secondly to provide a quality learning
environment that promotes critical thinking, enhances problem solving abilities
and ensures technical competence, and thirdly to ensure students are prepared to
successfully pass the National Council Licensure
Examination for Practical Nurses
(NCLEX-PN) and to function as a vital member of the health care team in
meeting the needs of a socially diverse community.
Greater than 90% of our graduates go on to seek employment in a variety of
medical treatment facilities including long-term care, acute care, ambulatory
care and home health care. Approximately 50% of our graduates continue their
education beyond vocational nursing training by completing prerequisites in
preparation to enter a Registered Nurse (RN) school with the goal of obtaining
either an Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
