Rules
of Conduct
- No
food and drinks are allowed in the lab.
- No
drink containers allowed in the lab.
- No
visiting while in the lab. If a student must talk with another
student they should take their conversation out in the hall.
- The
area in room 135, close to the entrance is the administrative
area. Because of the administrative work, that area could
be distracting.
- Turn
off all electronic equipment while in the lab. (any music players,
pagers, cell phones, etc.)
- If
you do chew gum, please dispose of it in a proper manner.
- Please
place all book bags and heavy purses on the floor next to
your computer workstation. This will prevent inadvertent
damage to computer equipment.
- Keep
an eye out for your valuables at all times. Do not ask another
individual to be responsible for watching your valuables
for you. If you must leave the computer lab for any reason,
please take your purses and valuables with you.
- This
is a learning environment. As such, we do not have proper
accommodations for students not enrolled in Reading classes.
This includes friends and children. Please make other arrangements
for them.
- Due
to ever increasing problems with computer viruses students
are not allowed to bring disks form outside the lab for
use on Reading Department Computers. All computer materials
will be provided by the Computer Instructional Center.
- Students
are reminded that only Reading Department work will be done
in the computer lab.
- Internet
use is restricted to Reading class assignments only.
- Students
are reminded that once they have completed their work in
the computer lab, they should clean up their area and push
their chair directly underneath their workstation. Be sure
that you have exited the program properly.
- Scheduled
Reading classes have propriety over drop in students.
- Students
are not permitted to use, receive or make calls using the
telephones in the computer lab. Public phones are located
in the lobby of the building.
- Failure
to comply with the lab rules will result in loss of Lab
privileges.
Sign-In Procedures
- Students
must have a student ID to use the Computer Lab.
- Students
must sign in when they are using the lab for independent
work or with a class. It is important so that each student gets credit for
time in the lab.
- Students
must sign out as they leave the computer lab.
- Students
will sign in and out on the computers. Follow the instructions on the screen. If
the sign in is down, fill out a slip. If you have
any problems, ask a Lab Assistant for help.
Availability of computers
for independent work
- All
Reading Department courses require students to complete
some additional computer lab time above and beyond that
time allowed in class. Students are encouraged to complete
this independent time as early in the semester as possible.
Human tendency is to procrastinate and leave everything
to the end of the semester. The problem arises that lines
will form outside of the computer lab during the last week
of the semester with students waiting to use the computers.
Students who do not finish the computer lab work may be
given a grade of incomplete and will have to finish the
course during the next semester.
Computer Keyboard Orientation
- Assistants
will go over the computer keyboard keys, including Backspace,
Space Bar, and Function keys.
