"Humility: The Other Value" and "Difficult Students"

"Humility: The Other Value" will begin a dialogue about the importance of humility in teaching. If this attribute is not utilized, teaching ends. "Difficult Students" will discuss what teachers can do when confronted with students causing problems to their class. Introduction to Cooperative Learning Part 1 Fall 2009 This session introduces the rationale for using cooperative learning and helps faculty differentiate between group work and cooperative learning by addressing some common misconceptions about group work. The primary focus is on modeling these principles in the classroom to show participants how classroom strategies are employed such as forming different types of groups (formal, informal, and base groups.) *For Certificate of Completion (available to all faculty) and Stipend ($100 available to part-time adjunct faculty ONLY), completion of Parts 1-4, a lesson plan, a reflection paragraph posted to the website (meeting the established criteria) are required.

This approach provides the most comprehensive foundation available for fostering positive change at all four levels of leadership: personal, interpersonal, managerial, and organizational. In turn, this solid foundation of principle-centered behavior makes other training initiatives in the organization more productive and valuable. Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day? Chances are, you don't. Our natural talents go untapped, from the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths. This session will assist leaders with tapping into their strengths and uncovering their talents. We will use the Gallup online assessment that has helped millions to discover their top five talents. The new and improved version of the assessment is part of this course and can be done in minimal time. The book is loaded with hundreds of strategies for applying your strengths, and an access code to take the assessment.. PRE-WORK: You must get a book from the Org Learning office, take the assessment and bring your work to class. Notes: This class specifically designed for all Alumni of NVC Leadership Lab and ACC ALAS Program.
