Employee Central is the centralized database for maintaining personnel records from the first day of hire throughout the employee's term of employment with NVC. Designed to record HR, Contact, Availability, and individual Professional Development Transcripts, this system is instrumental in the tracking of PAR's (Personnel Activity Reports) which are a mandatory process in association with District HR regulation. All faculty and staff are invited to this important event to kick off the 2009-2010 academic year. We will start with an informal Breakfast in Cypress at 8:00 am followed by a program in the new Palmetto Fine Arts Center. Awards and recognition will start the program with some fun activities throughout. Additional important outcome data on NVC will wrap up the Palmetto program. The morning will conclude with small focus groups aimed at providing feedback on the data.

Topics covered will range from the NVC Culture, to Customer Service Skills, Policy Briefings, Navigating the Web, FERPA and other key processes that will help acclimate Work Studies to the NVC way of service. Foundations in Cooperative Learning Fall 2009

Foundations in Cooperative Learning Fall 2009 ( 7 hour workshop ) This extended course allows time for students to complete the Beginner Cooperative Learning training course in one day, helping them see the difference between functioning teams and ordinary classroom groups. It is followed by a shorter follow-up session (Sept 26) needed for completing the full course. This course will cover Theory, Foundations, Application, and Implementation of Basic Cooperative Learning techniques. By working with the same group members for the entire session, students will have a strong model for seeing how these techniques can help develop both social and academic bonds between students, which will enhance their overall success and learning potential. *For Certificate of Completion (available to all faculty) and Stipend ($200 available to part-time adjunct faculty ONLY), completion of this course, including follow-up, or Parts 1-4, a lesson plan, a reflection paragraph posted to the website (meeting the established criteria) are required.

This session will introduce many of the people who help run this college work. Several of the vice presidents and deans will be in attendance. The individuals who run certain areas like Students with Disabilities, Service Learning, Career Services, Student Alumni and Student Development among others will attend. There will also be many of our seasoned instructors on hand. After lunch we will go to the Library and receive a tour as well as an introduction to how the Librarians can help teachers become more effective and efficient. Everyone is invited to this session including our most veteran instructors who might not have met some of the new people.
