A mind-set for serving customers. The importance of learning and practicing proven skills is obvious; apart from the actual skills and techniques, why is it that some people seem like "naturals" when it comes to providing great service? This program identifies and highlights the basic characteristics and traits of people who demonstrate excellent customer service.

Presented in three 8-hour days, the 7 Habits process by Stephen Covey is a lasting solution that helps build stronger organizations by strengthening the character and competence of the individuals who comprise them. This approach provides the most comprehensive foundation available for fostering positive change at all four levels of leadership: personal, interpersonal, managerial, and organizational. In turn, this solid foundation of principle-centered behavior makes other training initiatives in the organization more productive and valuable. Notes: Days 2 & 3, June 19 & 26, 2009; PH206, 8AM-5PM.

The Class of Nonviolence was developed by Colman McCarthy, founder of the Center for Teaching Peace in Washington, D.C. and is utilized on many campuses across the U.S. It uses classics in peace and justice literature to teach peacemaking and nonviolence. The course involves the reading of classic essays of notable peacemakers - Albert Schweitzer, Colman McCarthy, M.K. Gandhi, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King, Gene Sharp, Daniel Berrigan, Henry David Thoreau, Leo Tolstoy, Joan Baez, and others. Along with the readings there are in-depth discussions as well as experiential learning. The class will provide participants with the in-depth basics of peacemaking and nonviolence, a common language necessary for future development in this arena, and on-going resources. More can be seen about this course at www.salsa.net/peace/conv/index.html. Notes: All NVC employees are urged to attend.

We've offered the Low Glycemic Diet (or Dr. Troxler's Slow Starch Diet) and now we are looking at the psychological aspects of weight loss. There is much more to it than eating fewer calories and exercising. Stress, emotions, upbringing, and old beliefs can keep us stuck no matter how hard we try.
This is a 5-week program that will address some of the areas that keep us from succeeding our health and wellness goals.
Psychology of Weight Loss Agenda:
Week 1. Overview and discussion of terminology, logs, reasons why we can't get rid of weight
Week 2. Stress reduction and weight loss using HeartMath
Week 3. Wipe out old thoughts and emotions using TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique)
Week 4. Discussing the effects of negative emotions and guided imagery/hypnosis that gets rid of one bad habit
Week 5. Mindless vs. mindful eating and wrap-up
Notes: FIRST MEETING IN CCC 203. Remaining 4 weeks in CCC 122.
